Natural Disasters In Bangladesh
Bangladesh is criss-crossed be many rivers, their branches and
tributaries. So it is often called a land of natural disasters. Because flood,
cyclone, SIDAR, nor wester, drought and similar other destructive forces of
nature often visit this country. Of these natural disaster flood occurs almost
every year in our country. Generally flood occurs in the rainy season due to
excessive rainfall of sudden overflow of water. It creates a terrible effect as
it submerges vast area of the country. It renders people homeless and they are
removed to temporary sheds and shelter center. It washes away everything life
and livestock. Crop fields are damaged, various water borne disease are break
and bridge are destroyed. They become muddy and slippery and unfit for
communication. The price of all daily necessaries goes up very high. In fact
the impact of flood is dreadfully damaging. In order to control flood more
relief centers and shelter should be build up by the government. The rivers and
canal should be regularly regulates through proper drainage system and overall
appropriate water management measures should be taken by way of pragmatic planning.
Banks and embankments should be built and warning system of the metrological
dept. should be spread widely for the consciousness of the common people. Because
there is a wse saying forewarned is foreearned. So both long and short term
plans can be take to reduce floods and all other natural disasters.
